This was a fourth year advanced graphic design project. Students collaborate with a local brewery, and according to their guidelines create a beer can design. The project was done in phases where each student comes up with an idea after the initial briefing and the class votes. Teams are created for the most voted ideas, and they proceed onto the next round until the brewery picks their top 4 choices. The top 4 beers are actually created, opened and tasted at an event called Pub Night. This year, we collaborated with Cabin brewery. Cabin Brewery has a 70's design aesthetic, which made our group member Ben think of the past and how it is commonly viewed through "rose tinted glasses". This beer is meant to evoke a sense of nostalgia, with its hypnotic vinyl record design, pulling the eye in with its grooves. The design was a team effort, working from an early rendition made by our group member Ben.
Put on your Rose Tinted Glasses, because you need it to see this design in action. The pattern is an optical illusion! When wearing red glasses, the thorns are hidden and only the roses are visible. My contribution to this project was merch design, fridge design and presentation.

Of course not everyone wears rose tinted glasses 24/7. No worries, we got solutions for that! The box will contain a window made out of a red translucent plastic, allowing you to see the illusion. For single cans, translucent fridge decals can be used in stores to make the illusion work without the box.
